Bleeding gums treatment in Coimbatore

Pink in the sink when you brush, gums that bleed when you floss, gums that look puffy or red: at Apollo Dental Vadavalli we measure the gum pockets, show you the bleeding points and the bone level on the chairside screen, and tell you in one visit whether this is early gum inflammation that a cleaning reverses or gum disease that needs treatment.

This page tells you what gum bleeding while brushing can point to, when it is more than a cleaning problem, and where each pattern usually leads. It does not tell you what you have; only a gum check can.

Bleeding gums at the gum line

Why do my gums bleed? What it can mean

What you noticeWhat it can indicateWhat we usually do
Bleeding on brushing or flossing, gums a little red or puffyPlaque and tartar at the gum line causing gum inflammation (gingivitis), which is reversibleA scaling and polishing, and the brushing spots you are missing
Bleeding plus bad breath, gums pulling back, teeth looking longerGum disease (periodontitis) with tartar below the gum and early bone lossDeep cleaning below the gum, then maintenance visits
Bleeding with a loose tooth, or pus and swelling near one toothAdvanced gum disease, or an abscessGum treatment, sometimes gum surgery; a tooth too far gone is removed
Bleeding from one spot onlyA rough filling edge, a crown margin, or something wedged between teethSmooth or replace the edge, clean the spot
Bleeding that started with pregnancy, a new medication or a health changeGums reacting to hormonal or medical changesA gentle clean and a plan with your doctor in mind
Bleeding that is heavy, easy, or with bruising elsewhereRarely, a general health issue affecting clottingWe ask you to see your physician as well

Bleeding gums are not normal and do not mean you should brush less; they mean plaque is sitting where the brush is not reaching. Caught at the gingivitis stage, the gums heal fully with a cleaning and better brushing. Left alone, the inflammation moves into the bone, and that stage is controlled rather than reversed. Severe gum disease affects around one in five adults worldwide (WHO Global Oral Health Status Report, 2022), and almost all of them started with bleeding on brushing.

Until you are seen

  1. 1Keep brushing the bleeding area gently twice a day with a soft brush. Stopping makes it worse.
  2. 2Floss or use an interdental brush once a day; the bleeding usually reduces within a week or two of regular cleaning.
  3. 3Rinse with warm salt water after meals.
  4. 4Do not use a mouthwash as a substitute for brushing, and do not take anything for it without asking us.
  5. 5Book a gum check. Swollen gums treatment is quickest when the pockets are still shallow.

How we find the cause at our Vadavalli clinic

  1. 1

    Pocket chart.

We measure the gap between gum and tooth on every tooth and mark where it bleeds. You see the numbers.

  2. 2

    Camera.

The chairside camera shows you the tartar and the inflamed spots.

  3. 3

    RVG where needed.

A low-radiation X-ray shows the bone level under the gum, which the probe cannot.

  4. 4

    Stage and plan.

Gingivitis or periodontitis, and which stage: then a cleaning, a deep cleaning or gum treatment, with the price, before we start.

Where bleeding gums usually lead

Bleeding gums: quick answers

Usually because plaque at the gum line has inflamed the gum, and the brush is finding the sore spot rather than causing it. It settles once the plaque and tartar are gone.

No. Brush it gently and thoroughly. Stopping lets more plaque build and the bleeding gets worse.

At the early stage, no; it is reversible with a cleaning. Left for years, it becomes gum disease and bone loss, which is controlled rather than reversed. A gum check tells you which stage you are at.

Yes. Bacteria in inflamed gum pockets are a common cause of bad breath that brushing does not fix.

Yes. Gum disease and diabetes each make the other harder to control, so tell us when you book and we plan your gum care with that in mind.

₹300 to ₹500 for the consultation and pocket chart, plus ₹200 to ₹300 for an RVG X-ray where needed. Treatment prices are on the cleaning and gum treatment pages.

The information on this page is general and does not replace an in-person dental examination. Only an examination can tell you what is causing your symptom.
