Tooth pain treatment in Coimbatore

A tooth that throbs, a twinge with cold, an ache when you bite: at Apollo Dental Vadavalli we see toothache the same day, find the cause on an RVG X-ray and the chairside camera, relieve the pain in that visit, and tell you which treatment fixes it and what it costs before we book it.

This page tells you what different kinds of tooth pain can point to, what to do until you are seen, and where each pattern usually leads. It does not tell you what you have; only an examination can.

What your toothache can mean

How it feelsWhat it can indicateWhat we usually do
A sharp twinge with sweet, hot or cold that passes in secondsA cavity, a worn spot near the gum, a cracked filling, or exposed rootA filling, or treatment for sensitivity
Pain with cold that lingers for a minute or moreAn inflamed nerve inside the toothUsually a root canal, sometimes a filling if caught early
A throbbing ache that wakes you at nightA nerve that has died and become infectedA root canal, or removal if the tooth cannot be saved
Pain when you bite down on one toothA crack, a high filling, or infection at the root tipA crown, a filling adjustment, or a root canal
Swelling, a gum boil, or a bad taste near one toothAn abscessDrain the infection, then a root canal or removal
Pain at the very back of the jaw, in wavesA wisdom tooth coming through or infected around itSettle the infection, then wisdom tooth removal
An ache across several teeth, worse in the morningGrinding or clenching, or sinus pressureA night guard, or a referral if it is the sinus

Two things worth knowing. Pain that stops on its own often means the nerve has died, not that the problem has gone. And most toothache is treatable in one or two visits once the cause is seen; in pooled studies of root canal patients, about eight in ten arrive in pain and roughly one in ten still has any pain a week after treatment (Pak and White, Journal of Endodontics, 2011).

Dental pain relief in Coimbatore until you are seen

  1. 1Rinse with warm salt water and floss gently to clear anything trapped between the teeth.
  2. 2Take the pain relief you normally use, as its packet directs. Do not place a tablet against the gum; it burns the tissue.
  3. 3Cold compress on the cheek if there is swelling, 15 minutes on and 15 off. No heat.
  4. 4Avoid very hot, cold or sweet food on that side, and keep the area clean.
  5. 5Call us. Severe toothache treatment on the same day is usually a filling, a root canal started, or an extraction, and we tell you which after the X-ray.

How we find the cause at our Vadavalli clinic

  1. 1

    Listen.

When it hurts, what sets it off, how long it lasts. The pattern narrows it before we look.

  2. 2

    Look on camera.

The chairside intra-oral camera shows you the tooth, the filling edge or the crack.

  3. 3

    Test and X-ray.

A cold test and a tap test tell us whether the nerve is alive; a low-radiation RVG X-ray shows decay between teeth and infection at the root.

  4. 4

Tell you which treatment and what it costs.

On the screen, before anything is done.

Where tooth pain usually leads

Tooth pain: quick answers

Yes. Pain that stops suddenly often means the nerve has died. The infection is still there and usually comes back as swelling.

Yes, every day 10 AM to 8 PM. Call first and we fit you in ahead of routine appointments.

Only if the nerve is involved. Many toothaches are a cavity, a cracked filling or a gum problem, and are fixed with a filling or a clean. The X-ray decides.

We settle the infection first and remove the tooth once the swelling has gone down, usually within a week.

Yes, in the upper back teeth, often several at once and worse when you bend forward. We check the teeth first and tell you if the sinus is the likelier cause.

₹300 to ₹500, plus ₹200 to ₹300 for the RVG X-ray. Treatment prices are on each treatment page and are confirmed after the examination.

The information on this page is general and does not replace an in-person dental examination. Only an examination can tell you what is causing your symptom.
